WHO ARE WE
Feed The Poor , is a local Birmingham based charity which began in 1980’s due to the Ethiopian famine, registered in 1986 with the Charity commission, our ethos is,
And they feed, for the love of God, the poor, the orphan, and the captive, “We feed you for the sake of God alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks.”
Feed The Poor does not discriminate on the grounds of race, religion or gender.
How we work
Feed The Poor provide a broad range of charitable activities for impoverished and suffering communities across the developing world and in particular in South Asia, the Middle East and Africa. We focus on health, education, orphan sponsorship and water aid schemes. Which primarily take the form of a partnership with local grass-roots charities to help deliver projects to those most in need Feed The Poor supports these small charities to enable them to develop their services to be as effective as possible. Through our experiences we have found that it is the small, localised grassroots charities that are best placed to deliver the necessary services to disadvantaged communities. Furthermore, many of these organisations do not have access to sufficient finance and therefore one of our major methods of engagement is to provide finance for joint projects between ourselves and relevant grassroots organisations.
How we fund our work
Feed the Poor is funded by donations mainly from the British Muslim community, which are made up of Zakatul-Maal [two and half percent of the annual savings of a Muslim], Zakatul-Fitr [charity given towards the end of the month of Ramadan], Sadaqah [any charitable donation], not a penny is deducted from these donations for administration or salaries. Feed The Poor have their own rag collections, donations of used clothes; furniture and bric a brac are sold in Feed the Poor Charity shops. The income from the rag, charity shops and gift aid covers administration costs and salaries. Feed the Poor have 8 full or part time employees and 15 to 20 volunteers.
Feed The Poor like most charities are donor led, the established projects are set a budget for the whole year. we organise collections, events and mailshots to raise funds for these projects. Feed The Poor have a long list of outstanding projects that are awaiting funding.
